Message from Mark's sister
I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Michaela Swauger. My family and I would like to put our word in about MRI located in the center of Cottonwood Az . We understand more than other people about the consequences of the slag pile. My brother Mark Small helped open MRI And was an employee of theirs tell his death on July 7th 2021. He died nine days short of his 60th birthday.
His son Justin also worked there and they were never told of the harmful and hazardous toxic materials that the slag pile contained. They were not required to wear any protection to prevent inhaling the toxic materials. My brother SUFFERED sinus infections and surgeries, bronchitis, allergies and several heart attacks. In his last days, Mark went to the hospital several times and was told "you have pneumonia, go home" So he went home and DIED that night.
Mark was a father, grandfather and a greatly loved friend of many. He was the only bread winner in his family. His untimely early death has made a big strain and impact on our family. It was only myself and him as children growing up. His loss has made my mom so depressed she cries every day for him still.
You can see me speaking at a city council meeting on 10/17/23 on the website called Cottonwood Contamination under the heading of "the Fight For Justice". You can also hear me speaking at the ADEQ meeting on 12/13/2023 under the heading called "The Truth" in the video "Community Concerns spoken at ADEQ".
MRI, City Counsel and ADEQ have no remorse over what happened nor what will continue to happen if nothing is done. The citizens of Cottonwood Arizona deserve much more than we are receiving. In closing, I would like to say the price of any life is far too high to justify any amount of money being made. I have attached pictures of my brother along with his grandson. I also attached a work picture of him of in which you can see he wears no protection. MRI tells workers the operation is harmless and IT'S NOT.
THIS CRISIS MUST END before more lives are lost!
Michaela Swauger
